It Takes Us All
Every single person is a vital contributing piece of a community. And as a community, Inverell and its surrounding towns and countryside are a map of people with diverse abilities, skills, talent and needs we cannot overlook, because together, we are stronger.
BEST Community Connections is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation. We have worked to assist people with disability and their families have full, independent lives since 1992, when a group of parents wanting more for their children. Since then, Connections has grown into a service championing the human rights for people with disability to have inclusive lives, freedom of choice, and healthy, secure futures.
We are looking forward to this Monday, 3 December, the International Day of People with Disability, with the theme ‘Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality’. Many residents will take to the Inverell CBD footpaths, passing out handmade keepsakes to mark the day as we make our way to a celebration in Victoria Park, starting at 10.30am.
The morning will bring together students, adults, and support services from across the district with activities, games, food and fun. It’s a chance for people to meet somebody with new, and learn a little about each other’s lives.
“Monday’s event in Victoria Park and the street walk will provide an opportunity for people in our community to engage with each other and experience this year’s theme, first hand,” BEST Connections manager Robbie Duff said.
“Also Monday night at the RSM club from 6pm, there will be a free short film-screening celebrating films shot this year involving our local talented actors - another excellent event showcasing and engaging in this year’s IDPWD theme.”
